In-house formats

Antti40 is Alpha40 with a budget twist. You can only use cards originally printed in Alpha. You can check the Alpha cards here https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=%28game%3Apaper%29+set%3Alea+prefer%3Abest

Your deck can consist of card printings of Alpha, Beta, Unlimited or Revised, but only one of your choice. Choose a printing that suits your budget and aesthetical taste.

You build a 40 card deck using the banned and restricted list from Northern Paladins called Alpha40 League. You can check the up to date list here https://northernpaladins.com/Alpha-40-League.pdf

People randomly carry their piles around to events for some nice casual games. The rules or the lack ofthem can be found here https://www.n00bcon.com/wizardstournament.txt the whole point of this format is to grasp that something that was happening in August 1993, so you just read the cards and try to play them as they read. Regeneration clearly regenerates target creature, not just the enchanted creature. Ambiquity is desired.

Keep your eyes open! Because of Antti40 budget twist and card versions. Some printings work differently compared to others. This is a Revised Goblin Balloon Brigade. It only gives flying to itself, where Unlimited, Beta and Alpha versions give flying to all goblins.

Some printings have different casting cost. Like Alpha Orcish Artillery here.

Another great example of different casting cost is the Orcish Oriflamme from Alpha.

For more information on how things might work, just take a look at that wizardstournament.txt you can find some rulings for things and the few official deckmaster errata for cards.

Antti40 World Championship is played annually, the night before the main event, at the pre-party for Fountain of the Youth Open. All wizards are welcome!

Here is one my decks. This is legal to play in Alpha40 and Antti40.

Liiga is a closed cardpool format, where players buy in with Ice Age Started deck, 2 Alliances boosters and 2 Homelands boosters. Players can add any number of Ice Age basic lands to their card pools (not snow-covered!). All other new cards must be acquired via trades within the closed league, or by winning them in a wizards challenge. Duels are always played for ante. Shuffle-Cut-Ante. We use contemporary mtg rules.

Here is the starting pool and Mirage booster from our first new set. Liiga is a living format. We do pre-releases. When enough of Liiga players decide it is time, we introduce a new set into the league. Mirage pre-release was held after our Team Unified Nationals for Old School in November 2025. Liiga players can buy a Mirage booster and add the cards into their cardpools. Now Liiga players may also add any number of Mirage basic lands into their cardpool now. There are rumours of a set called Visions, bringing even more beautiful art, dangerous creatures and powerful spells for our wizards to use.

Here is my trade binder for Liiga.

Liiga pick-up games are played randomly at all our local gatherings and tournaments. Buy the product and open it for camera or live with other Liiga players (because opening up old sealed product is always a significant event) and you are welcome to join in on the fun!
