Lipevä 8/2022

A warm summer's day brought in six players to play Swedish old school on paper in Hämeenlinna. Lipevä OS 2022 was played with UK rules and with every deck allowed to have 5 proxies.

The proxy rule was in place to even out the playing field for all players, but only a handful of proxies were actually played. The main culprit was a loaner deck whose owner only had one set of power.

The Tournament

The tournament was played as round robin, so that we could get the most out of the outing. Everybody got to play five matches, after which the winner was declared by points. In case of a tie, winner would have been chosen by flipping Orbs.

The meta was a nice mix of aggressive, combo-y and controlling decks. The mood was high and people were enjoying the games. There was even a newcomer with a loaner deck, who really enjoyed the format and its nuances.

After an interesting day full of great matches, the last match between vsaari and Tuukkeli would be the deciding game. While the game 1 was still going, the results from the other matches came in. It was made clear that this was the only table that could get a 4-1 player, meaning it was basically the final.

The match was very close and both players got to sit in the driver's seat for a while. It all came down to game 3, where both players pulled good top decks, but vsaari was able to draw the longest straw and got the upper hand in the end.

The first place prize, the Fourth Edition booster, was immediately cracked open and revealed a crisp and minty clean Goblin King.
